Objective

Provide an Australian Government department with off-the-record insights into the private sector’s thinking and action on nature and biodiversity. Create opportunities to hear from and understand the business community to better understand corporate progress on sustainability and nature-based strategy development, implementation and roadblocks, and agenda priorities for the Global Nature Positive Summit (GNPS).

Approach

The Action Exchange developed an agile stakeholder engagement process to identify key ASX 200 business sector stakeholders with an interest in, or impact on, nature. Our in-depth interview-based engagement process explored if these companies had started to measure and mitigate their nature-based sustainability risks and what outcomes they wanted to see from public sector initiatives to spark a new biodiversity market.

Outcome

Our client’s engagement strategy is de-risked, and corporate Australia is engaged and enthusiastic about the Global Nature Positive Summit. Combined with best-practice analytical research, and with sensitivity to political and commercial priorities, we brought the stakeholder engagement findings to life for DCCEEW. Our partners conducted executive briefings to guide the government’s outreach to business, and a comprehensive thought leadership white paper was produced to inform the event agenda and broader debate.
